About our Attendance Policy
We've put together what we think is a pretty fair and sensible attendance policy, considering our students, parents, and teachers. Your support means a lot as we work towards creating a supportive and lasting environment for everyone involved. Thanks for being part of our mission to spread the joy of music in our community!
Frequently asked questions
We are dedicated to ensuring the best learning experience and lesson quality for our students, and we believe that mutual commitment is crucial for successful learning outcomes. As part of this commitment, we have a 24-hour attendance policy. Here are the reasons behind this policy:
1. Each lesson involves a uniquely tailored plan crafted specifically for you or your child for your lesson that day.
2. Providing less than 24 hours' notice results in an unpaid time slot for the teacher, who could otherwise fill that time with advance notice.
3. The 24-hour policy helps prevent potential misuse, ensuring that parents and students do not take advantage by calling in sick for reasons that are not genuinely necessary.
4. While we uphold the policy, we also recognize that unforeseen circumstances can arise. In cases such as a serious hospital trip, a significant family incident, or uncontrollable situations like a breakdown on the side of the road, we are willing to consider exceptions and grant makeup credits even without the standard 24-hour notice.
We completely understand that this situation is challenging, and we empathize with you; it's definitely not an ideal circumstance to find yourself in. We recognize that unforeseen events, like your child falling ill mid-day, can be quite unpredictable, especially when you had originally planned to attend the lesson.
After careful consideration, we've drawn a parallel to how other recreational activities handle similar situations. For instance, if your child had a scheduled soccer game in the evening, there typically wouldn't be a refund for missing that game.
We also want to be transparent about the impact on your child's teacher in this scenario. They may go without pay while waiting in an empty lesson room during that time slot. It's important for the teachers to have a consistent job and income for the long term. If their income becomes inconsistent due to unpaid sessions, it could lead them to seek other opportunities, and your child might miss out on the chance to continue with their favourite teacher, with whom they've developed a bond.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we navigate these challenges together.
1. We implement a 4-month minimum commitment period for music lessons to ensure that we enroll students who are genuinely dedicated to learning music and are passionately committed to their musical journey.
2. At our studio, we primarily work with young children. We recognize that, after the initial excitement of starting music lessons fades around the second month, students may encounter challenges – a phase we refer to as the "sticky point." To support our students during this period, our program is designed to delve into their interests, motivations, and more. By making personalized adjustments to their lessons, we aim to make the learning experience more unique, exciting, and motivating, helping them overcome challenges and fostering a sustained passion for music.
We kindly ask for a 15-day (2 weeks) notice for lesson cancellations due to the following reasons:
1. 15 Days notice allows us to give the teacher a heads up, giving them ample opportunity to make necessary adjustments to their schedule and adequately prepare for any resulting unpaid empty time slots.
2. Requiring cancellations by the 15th ensures that our teachers can maintain a stable livelihood and income.
3. VMA is a small business owned by a young couple, we opened up this music school with the goal of fostering a love and passion for music in the Windsor community. The 15-day notice period enables us to manage and stabilize the studio's income effectively.
Your understanding and cooperation in this matter are greatly appreciated as we strive to provide a nurturing and sustainable environment for both our students and teachers. Thank you for supporting our mission in promoting the joy of music in our community.
